writing writing serves a rhetorical purpose. that is, the message is an effort to evoke a change in the behaviour or attitude of the intended reader.

the writer balances the needs of the reader with the requirements of the genre and the constraints of language - all in service to the writer's purpose.

a service piece also provides information.

"your fertility cycle" is an information piece, for the audience to 'read-to-learn', with this information, women can understand the biology of their fertility cycles.

a service piece can also be a how-to article.
